VIRGINIA ALVIOLA-ARAO
Founder
VIRGINIA ALVIOLA-ARAO is a Business Administration graduate in the University of the East, C.M.Recto, Manila, Phillippines. She has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Lyceum University, Intramuros, Manila. Philippines. She pursued her studies to take PHD in Business Administration in the same university . Her work experience is so diversified which lead the way for her to embark into a business which is even outside her expertise. Being a marketing major, and having wide experience in sales from consumer products to medical products, she poured all her learned knowledge and resources by opening a technical vocational school offering courses accredited in Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). The school she established named PHILIPPINE SCHOOL FOR MARITIME AND MEDICAL ACCESS INC. , is a family owned business operated with the help of her children and husband. The institution which was started in 2008 is now slowly growing, generating at least 25% increase in enrollment yearly. Her love for teaching and mentoring coupled with her exposure in the maritime industry being a daughter of a Ship Captain and a wife of a Chief Marine Engineer encouraged her to open a technical vocational school that will provide an affordable education to everyone and give them skills to make them employable onboard any type of commercial vessels.
PSMMA is also a MARINA ACCREDITED training center since 2001 that offers courses on Crowd and Crisis Management for Domestic Vessels , HIV-AIDS with PADAMS , Ship Security Awareness, Maritime English, Technical Report Writing in Maritime Business and other trainings required by the vessel where the students of PSMMA take their On-Job-Training as stewards . Maritime Industry Authority(MARINA) is a government institution tasked to handle Philippine maritime safety affairs to ensure that Filipino seafarers and shipping companies would comply with the requirements of the 2010 STCW Manila Amendments. PSMMA has partnership tie-up with several domestic shipping lines, hotels and restaurants in the Philippines where the students are sent to serve their apprenticeship program. Recently PSMMA received its permit from the Department of Education to offer the K-12 Program or the Senior High School Program.
Her previous work experience in China as Maritime English Consultant in shipping companies, her exposure in the maritime business for more than 15 years, gave her the right perspective on how a technical vocational training institution should be operated.
Virginia A. Arao will continue to write books that could be useful to students enrolled in the maritime education and to the maritime officers working onboard ships or offshore as managers.
